Composition Studio | Academic Courses
Mastering the craft of counterpoint is a constant theme in my pedagogical approach. As a central, expressive, and technical device, counterpoint informs composition in all levels and styles. I believe in a varied approach that explores monophonic and species counterpoint, and Partimento/thorough-bass techniques from a historically-informed perspective, while simultaneously applying concepts from post-tonal theory and non-western music traditions.
By acquiring a strong foundation, my students have even more freedom to explore their own stylistic voices and musical passions. My students have gone on to study music at institutions such as Yale, Oberlin, and SUNY, Purchase.
If you are interested in a schedule a trial lesson, discussing your compositional goals, or would like to find out about my studio, please submit the contact form below.
